Ash Ketchum's growth by FoxBluereaver Ash Ketchum's growth by FoxBluereaver
English/Inglés

I had lost a bit the practice with kid characters. And since I had this idea for a long time, I thought perhaps now would be a good moment to get it out of my head, to recover the practice.

So, this is my "perception", so to speak, about how should Ash be growing during the Pokémon anime. We all know when Ash left Pallet Town for the first time he was 10 years old, right? He returns home about one year later (as stated in Season 1 Episode "The Battle of the Badge" in which Ash earns his Earthbadge) meaning he would be 11 at that time. Furthermore, in "Pikachu and Pichu", Ash says they're celebrating the aniversary of the day he and Pikachu first met, therefore he would be 12 at that time. Assuming he spent another whole year traveling across Johto, Ash would be about 13 years old, or at least close to that age at the end of the Johto saga. Keeping the same time frame in Hoenn, Ash would be about 14 by the time he returns to Kanto. However, as the Battle Frontier season was shorter than the previous seasons (and to somehow make some consistency with the Orange League season) I assume it would have lasted about 6 months top. In conclusion, at the beginning of his journey across Sinnoh, Ash's age should be between 14 and 15 years old. Again, this is just my closest estimation of Ash's age, if anybody has anything to say, feel free to do so.

I don't think it's immortality... I think that all this time, Ash is still inside a comatose state from the Spearow flock in the first episode of Pokemon Anime. All of what Ash is experiencing is a figment of his subconscious imagination. The friends he make represent fragments of his personalities. And the Pokemon he meets in his head are his scattered memories in the form of interchangeable Pokemons. So basically, he should be 26 years old now while he remains 10 years inside his figment of his own comatose imagination.

That seems rather plausible, I'd say.

I'd agree because Ash has been travelling for a long time, and they just had to make him lose his maturity in the newer series.

Way too much. And also, they make him look bad by losing to a rookie (which irks me to no end).

I'm not to blame all japanese, but I often times can't understand their plotting with characters at time, you know how different things can be compared to those shows and the real world.

I know. I mean, the fiction is exciting, but there are some details of the real world they should always keep in mind, like the characters aging and growing up.

True enough,Ash does know better than to just throw a pokeball at a pokemon without battling first, they just make him as if he's just starting off.

I loved how in the first episode of Black and White the narrator said he was still ten year old...that's Pokemon, completely ignoring laws of logic.

Maybe Dialga thought it was doing as a favor by keeping him forever young and immortal...
